Mission = Healing justice + leadership + culture + community power.

Transformative Changes exists to disrupt cycles of harm, exclusion, and disconnection by centering the leadership, lived experience, and cultural knowledge of Black and Brown communities, particularly youth, femmes, and caregivers. Through healing justice, leadership development, cultural organizing, and community power-building, we support communities in creating more just, connected, and liberated futures.

Vision = Liberated, Thriving Futures

We envision Black and Brown communities where healing, belonging, safety, cultural identity, and collective power are accessible to all people; where youth, femmes, caregivers, and community members are equipped to shape the decisions that affect their lives; and where communities have the resources, relationships, and power necessary to build just, thriving, and liberated futures. Transformative Changes seeks to become Virginia's leading healing justice and community power-building organization for Black and Brown youth, families, femmes, and caregivers by integrating healing justice, cultural organizing, leadership development, participatory policymaking, and systems change. Rather than operating within a single sector, Transformative Changes occupies the intersection of healing, culture, civic engagement, leadership, and social change to help communities move from lived experience to healing, leadership, collective power, and systems transformation

Organizational Identity

Transformative Changes is a Black woman-founded, community-rooted, peer-led healing justice organization founded in 2022. We exist because systems that impact Black and Brown communities often reproduce cycles of exclusion, trauma, disposability, violence, cultural erasure, and disempowerment. We recognize that many institutions, including social movements themselves, can replicate patterns of urgency, extraction, burnout, punishment, and disconnection. Our work seeks to interrupt these cycles by cultivating healing, belonging, collective care, leadership, accountability, and community power rooted in the wisdom and lived experiences of those most impacted by systemic barriers.

Theory of Change

Theory of Change = If people have healing, belonging, leadership opportunities, and influence over systems, communities build collective power and create lasting change. We believe that Black and Brown communities possess the cultural knowledge, lived experience, and leadership necessary to create lasting change. When communities have access to healing, leadership development, cultural connection, community accountability, and opportunities to influence systems, they strengthen individual well-being, build collective power, and advance community-defined solutions. Through healing justice, cultural organizing, leadership development, transformative justice practices, and advocacy, Transformative Changes supports communities in moving from survival to healing, from healing to leadership, and from leadership to collective liberation.

How We Work

Transformative Changes does not approach healing, leadership, arts and culture, systems change, or community accountability as separate programs. These practices are integrated throughout every initiative, partnership, training, gathering, and community engagement strategy. Regardless of entry point, participants experience an approach rooted in healing justice, cultural organizing, leadership development, community accountability, and collective power-building.
