Why I Serve

I believe in the power of community and in our collective responsibility to positively impact the lives of others. I have always believed that it takes a village—and throughout our history, strong communities have been essential to how Black and Brown people have persevered, overcome challenges, and continued to move forward.

That belief is also personal for me. I know firsthand the difference that family, faith, community, and strong support systems can make when navigating life's trials, disappointments, and difficult seasons.

I also believe that healing is essential to growth. Too often, people are expected to simply pick themselves up and keep moving after experiencing hurt, trauma, loss, or adversity. But moving forward can be difficult when healing has not taken place. Sometimes that healing comes through behavioral health services or counseling. Sometimes it comes through mentoring, coaching, faith, family, or simply having a safe and supportive community around you.

I have experienced the power of healing through my own family, community, church, faith, and support systems. Those experiences have reinforced my belief that we must care for the whole person so that people can show up stronger in their personal, professional, community, and spiritual lives.

That is one of the reasons I am proud to serve on the Board of Directors of Transformative Changes. Its commitment to healing, community care, leadership, and creating opportunities for Black and Brown communities aligns deeply with what I believe.
