MH Boxes

MH Boxes is a Black-serving, youth-powered nonprofit organization founded by Mila Henry at just 12 years old. What began as one young girl's response to her own mental health journey has grown into a national movement dedicated to ensuring adolescent Black girls have access to the resources, relationships, and support they need to heal and thrive.

Rooted in lived experience, MH Boxes is guided by the voices of the very communities it serves, ensuring that every program is relevant, affirming, and healing-centered.

We are dedicated to supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of adolescent Black girls, a group that is too often overlooked in traditional mental health systems. Studies show that nearly 1 in 2 Black girls will experience a mental health condition by age 18, yet they are less likely to receive culturally responsive care or support.

MH Boxes is working to close that gap, one box, one conversation, and one connection at a time.

Since launching in 2024, we've:

📦 Delivered more than 3,000 Mental Health Boxes to girls across 13 states

🤝 Partnered with schools, hospitals, group homes, community organizations, and grassroots leaders to identify and support girls most in need

🫶 Expanded from direct service to include workshops and youth leadership programs

🗣️ Launched Her Voice, our inaugural Youth Board, empowering adolescent Black girls to help shape the future of MH Boxes while developing leadership, advocacy, and fundraising skills

This year, we're growing in exciting ways. Through expanded workshops, peer support initiatives, caregiver engagement, and our new Her Voice Youth Board, we are creating more opportunities for girls not only to receive support, but to lead, advocate, and build community with one another.

At MH Boxes, we believe that mental health is not a luxury. It's a right. Black girls deserve spaces, tools, relationships, and support that honor their identities and experiences.
