About Access Abroad Project, Inc.

Access Abroad Project, Inc. (AAP) is a Georgia based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization removing financial and logistical barriers to study abroad, global service, and international internships for underrepresented students. Founded in September 2025 and led by Founder and CEO Chanterries Roberts, AAP exists because too many talented students are stopped before they even begin their global journey, not by lack of ambition, but by the cost of a passport, a visa, or a plane ticket.

Our Story

AAP was born out of Founder Chanterries Roberts's own experience serving in the Peace Corps, a dream opportunity she had held for years. While her service was fully funded, the emotional and wellness support needed to sustain her through the term was not. Simple things, a send off kit, a care package, a reminder that home was thinking of her, could have made a real difference in those months abroad. She completed her service, but that gap stayed with her. AAP exists to make sure the next student does not have to navigate that distance alone.

Our mission is simple: access today, impact tomorrow. We believe that global opportunity should never be reserved only for students who can already afford it. Priority is given to first generation, low income, and historically underrepresented students participating in study abroad, global service, or international internship programs.

Our Programs

AAP operates through two core programs.

The Access Fund provides direct pre departure grants of up to $750 to help students overcome the upfront costs standing between them and life changing international experiences. Awards cover passport and visa fees, travel stipends, immunizations and required documentation, and emergency pre departure support.

Globetrotter Goodies supports students emotionally and practically while they are abroad, through care packages, send off kits, and encouragement from home. This program is entering its first student serving cycle in FY 2026-2027, built around three pillars: send off kits, care packages, and emotional support.

Our Impact So Far

In our first partial fiscal year, September 16, 2025 through June 30, 2026, AAP supported 7 students across 6 countries, awarded $4,750 in direct grants, and engaged 13 donors. Our inaugural Access Fund cohort included students from Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College, the University of Texas at Austin, Indiana University, and Morehouse College, traveling to destinations including Paris, Rabat, Madrid, Spain, Ghana, and Tokyo.

Looking Ahead

For FY 2026-2027, our goals are to fund 20 students, reach students in 10 to 12 countries, send 10 Globetrotter Goodies care packages, and build 10 or more institutional partnerships.

Our Team

AAP is guided by a founding board that reflects the communities we serve. Our board includes Founder and CEO Chanterries Roberts, Treasurer Jacqualine Santiago, Secretary Nakiea Smith, and Board Members At Large Ernest Comer III and Juan Gonzalez. Four of our five board members, Chanterries, Jackie, Nakiea, and Ernest, are African American, and Juan is Latino. This representation is not incidental. It reflects our commitment to ensuring that the students we serve, many of whom are first generation, low income, or historically underrepresented, see themselves in the leadership guiding this work.
