This free, all-day celebration in Uptown transforms First Ward Park into a vibrant gathering space where thousands enjoy live performances, cultural dance workshops, the Soul Expressions Art Walk, a lively Kids Zone, and family-friendly activities—while also gaining access to life-changing resources.
We use the arts as a bridge to connect our underserved Black community to vital services:
Healthcare Access: Free health screenings, mammograms, flu and COVID vaccinations, and senior resources. The uninsured can connect with primary care, dental checks, and other preventive care services through our partnership with Mecklenburg County Public Health, who will be on site to help uninsured guests get set up and on the road to better health. We also host a Sickle Cell Awareness Blood Drive with OneBlood, addressing a disease that primarily affects individuals of African descent.
Housing & Economic Mobility: Financial literacy programs, down payment assistance, affordable homeownership guidance, and small business education with access to loan programs—delivered in partnership with Bank of America, DreamKey Partners, Common Wealth Charlotte, and the Mecklenburg County Office of Economic Development.
