August 28th marks the only national day dedicated solely to honoring Black-led and Black-benefiting nonprofits. Celebrated annually, this day recognizes the resilience, creativity, and impactful work of organizations serving Black communities often with limited resources but unlimited heart.
This year, as we face urgent challenges such as rising food costs, increasing economic disparities, and health inequities that disproportionately impact Black communities, our mission becomes even more vital. That’s why we've set a goal to raise $2,500 on this day of giving to expand our Cancer Support Program, which provides essential healthy food and wellness resources to cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers.
Last year, our Spring and Fall Cancer Support Health and Wellness Classes reached over 100 participants, offering mental health support, nutrition education, healthy cooking demonstrations, and supplies to recreate these meals at home. We also extended our reach beyond our local area through virtual participation, including individuals from coast to coast. Additionally, we provided more than $200 worth of themed items to over 20 cancer patients and survivors who were unable to attend in person, helping improve their mental and physical health.
This year, we continue to offer free Spring Health and Wellness Classes and are preparing for the fall session. Your support is crucial to sustaining and expanding these vital programs, helping cancer patients, survivors, and those seeking to improve their health. Join us in making a powerful difference on this important day. Every donation brings us closer to our goal and amplifies the impact we can have together.
