Salaam Community Wellness Center was established in 2020 in response to the devastating impact that COVID-19 had on Black and Brown communities in Chicago. Dedicated to create a new and more compassionate model of care, the organization designed a unique, innovative integrative healthcare program combining the best of western and non-western modalities. In addition to our primary care services we offer deep-breathing, meditation, massage therapy, acupuncture, herbal therapies, music therapy and more.

Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) are critical in health and wellness. They include the lack of affordable healthy foods, lack of safe affordable housing, healthcare access, economic stability. In order for the work of Salaam Community Wellness Center to be impactful, we must address some of these factors.

One area we are keenly focused on is food insecurity. In the late spring of 2023, we revamped our organic "Paradise Garden". It now covers two city lots and has been yielding over 20 varieties of vegetables. Much of this yield is being used by our "Let's Eat to Live Restaurant" which is the new addition to our urban revitalization project.

We ask for your support to help to continue to build on our program. We intend to launch a mental health "pop-up" program to reach out and provide services to some of our most vulnerable neighbors.

This will offer on-site resources including physical and mental health screenings, case management support, healing modality sessions, free give-aways of non-perishable food and personal care products. There will also be a "mini" resource fair offering assistance for much needed services such as affordable food access and housing.
