Good Neighbor Week 2026: Building a Stronger Omaha

Strong neighborhoods don't happen by accident.

They happen when people know their neighbors. When residents feel like their voices matter. When communities have the tools, relationships, and opportunities to solve problems together.

That's why One Omaha exists.

At One Omaha, we believe that the people closest to the challenges are the people closest to the solutions. Too often, decisions are made about neighborhoods without the people who live there. Residents are asked to show up after decisions have already been made, rather than being involved from the beginning. We believe there is a better way.

Our mission is simple: empower people where they live.

We do this by bringing residents, neighborhood associations, nonprofits, businesses, faith communities, and public institutions together to strengthen neighborhoods and create lasting change. Whether we're facilitating community conversations, supporting resident-led projects, providing mini-grants, developing neighborhood leaders, or helping residents navigate systems and resources, our goal is the same: build stronger neighborhoods by investing in the people who call them home.

Today, One Omaha is leading several community-driven initiatives across the city.

Through our Neighborhood Needs Assessment, we are working alongside residents to better understand community priorities, challenges, and opportunities in North and South Omaha. Unlike traditional assessments that are done to communities, this effort is being co-designed with residents and community partners because we believe the people living the experience should help shape the questions and the solutions.

Through Good Neighbor Week, we are creating opportunities for residents across Omaha to connect, volunteer, support local businesses, participate in community conversations, and strengthen relationships with the people around them. At a time when loneliness, division, and distrust continue to grow, we believe being a good neighbor is more important than ever.

Through our mini-grant programs and leadership initiatives, we help residents turn ideas into action. Sometimes neighborhood change starts with a large project. Other times it starts with a conversation on a front porch, a community cleanup, a block gathering, or a resident who simply decides to step forward and lead.

What makes One Omaha different is that we don't see residents as recipients of services. We see them as partners, leaders, and experts in their own communities.

We know that strong neighborhoods create stronger cities. When neighbors know each other, communities become safer. When residents are connected, they are more likely to volunteer, advocate, and solve problems together. When people feel like they belong, entire neighborhoods thrive.

But this work cannot happen alone.
