As we close this wild ride of a year and process the trauma that so many of us have experienced via racism, sexism, classism....all the ism's! Not to mention COVID-19... we would like you to focus on three words.
Rest. Resist. Restore.
Rest is just the beginning, a starting point in changing the trajectory of healthcare for Black women, our families, and our communities. Once we truly understand this, it will lead not only lead to long-term personal and systemic change, it will lead to the thriving of our communities. Merely surviving is no longer an option. We demand and we deserve to thrive....we will rest.
Resist...rebel, fight, defy. The resistance starts with you. To address systemic failures in healthcare we must actively resist participating in it. Supporting BIPOC led organizations, such as Abide, is a small way of joining the resistance. Committing to introspection and addressing one's own biases is part of the resistance. Holding your staff accountable is part of the resistance and creating new systems that center the lived experiences of BIPOC is resistance. To resist is to liberate.
Restore. Our rock-solid values are what drive us to restore. Intrinsic Human Value, Anti-racism, Racial Conciliation, Equity, Reparation, Redemptive Justice and Inventive Systems, Posture of Heart and Human Flourishing are the values that we hold dear. These values combined with rest and resistance give birth to restoration.
So as you finish off this year, walk with us into a new season of rest, step into a new challenge and resist, and watch as our bodies, our communities, our cities and broken systems....restore.
Abide Women's Health Services exist to improve birth outcomes in communities with the lowest quality of care by offering healthcare and complimentary services that are easily accessible, holistic evidence-based and free from judgment.
