About Brown Girls Do Ballet®

Brown Girls Do Ballet® is a division of Brown Girls Do.®, Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to increasing participation in ballet among underrepresented communities.

Through scholarships, mentorship, free and accessible dance programs, and community partnerships, we work to remove barriers and create meaningful opportunities for young dancers to train, grow, and pursue their dreams.

Every gift helps make ballet a space where our girls can see themselves—not just in the audience, but center stage.

This North Texas Giving Day, help us keep the door open for the next generation of dancers. A little goes a long way.

Our Story

It began in 2013, when TaKiyah Wallace, while searching for a ballet class for her daughter, recognized a painful absence of representation. What started as a photography project to reflect diversity in dance grew into a nationwide movement uplifting countless young ballerinas.

Programs and Initiatives:

  • Scholarship Program: Providing financial support to talented girls of color, enabling them to attend reputable ballet schools and workshops.
  • Mentorship Program: Pairing aspiring dancers with experienced mentors who can provide guidance, support, and encouragement throughout their ballet journey.
  • Educational Workshops & Experiences: Hosting workshops on ballet technique, nutrition, mental health, and other relevant topics to ensure the holistic development of young dancers. In addition to educational workshops, Brown Girls Do Ballet believes in the importance of celebrating the joy of dance. We organize fun and lively events that allow young dancers to come together, share their passion, and build lasting connections.
  • Community Outreach: Engaging with local communities to raise awareness about the importance of diversity in ballet and conducting outreach programs to identify and support potential talent.

Join us the giving season, to support the next generation of dancers. Your early gift moves us closer to our $10,000 goal, and closer to building a more inclusive arts world.
