The Buttonbush Farm and Nursery

In February 2026, Winter Storm Fern collapsed our production greenhouse at The Buttonbush Farm & Nursery. Every native plant we grow gets its start there, before heading out into meadows, gardens, and restoration sites across the Southeast.

The Buttonbush Farm & Nursery is built on three pillars: our native plant nursery, our soil health research beds, and a native plant meadow that doubles as a demonstration space and outdoor classroom. The nursery is the foundation that feeds the other two. Without a working greenhouse, we can't propagate the plants that stock the meadow, support our research, or reach the growers and gardeners who depend on us for native stock.

Growing native plants matters because these are the species that already know how to live here: they hold soil, feed pollinators, and carry generations of ecological memory in their seed. We treat seed stewardship as a form of ancestral mutual aid, passed down like a family recipe. As a 4th-generation Earth Woman, I see this nursery as one more link in a lineage of people who have taken care of this land.

We're $931 away from finishing the rebuild: $582 for gothic-style roofing and $349 for a zipper door that gives us easy access all winter long. Help us get our plants back under cover and growing again.
