Southern Women in Motion Foundation (SWIM) supports justice-impacted and marginalized women and girls rebuilding their lives after incarceration, rehabilitation, homelessness, and other major life challenges. Many of the women we serve are mothers returning to their communities without stable housing, employment, or the resources needed to successfully rebuild their lives and families.

Our mission is to reduce mass incarceration and criminalization, alleviate poverty and homelessness among returning citizens, and help women move toward long-term stability. Through supportive housing, reentry support, workforce and employment services, mentoring, advocacy, and community resources, we help women address both their immediate needs and the barriers that can make starting over difficult.

What sets SWIM apart is that this work is deeply personal to us. All of our Board members and about 50% of our staff have lived experience with incarceration or involvement in the justice system. We understand the challenges our clients face because we have either experienced them ourselves or seen them within our families and communities.

Our commitment to this work is driven by both our experiences and our hope. We recognize that the challenges are very real, as many of us have faced them directly or supported someone who has. We also believe that a person's past does not have to define their future.

Through SWIM, we aim to provide the support that too many women lack when they return home. We offer a safe space, understanding individuals, practical resources, encouragement, and a chance to start anew.

When someone gives to SWIM, they do more than make a donation. They are helping a woman move from instability toward stability, from isolation toward community, and from simply surviving toward rebuilding her life.

We believe in second chances. We believe in the strength and potential of the women we serve. And because many of us have lived through these challenges ourselves, we are deeply committed to walking beside the next woman as she begins her journey forward.
