The Kappa Foundation of Prince George’s County, Inc., (Foundation) primarily serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration in the community by supporting initiatives that empowers young people to reach their full potential and to address the broader needs of Prince George’s County.  The partners with the Hyattsville/Landover(MD) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc

The mission of the Foundation is to conduct fundraising activities to provide financial revenue for academic enrichment, youth leadership development programs, scholarships and awards, and other community outreach projects. 

The primary objectives of the Foundations are to:

1) provide educational scholarships, and other types of financial aid to worthy individuals; 

2) assist community groups and individuals in Prince George’s County, Maryland with civic improvement and charitable activities; 

3) accept and make donations of money, property, real or personal, to invest in real estate and property for educational, civic or charitable purposes; and 

4) to promote the general welfare by providing services to the Prince George’s County, Maryland community to encourage and promote the development of its people, and its institutions from time-to-time. 

Currently, the Foundation’s work focuses on three primary areas to include youth development, educational scholarships, and community outreach.

Youth Development

The Foundation funds a variety of youth development programs such as the Kappa League Leadership Program, Kamp Kappa, STEM Career Exploration, and Academic Enrichment initiatives for young people between the ages of 13 – 21. These programs are designed to provide young African American males access to high achieving role models, from within the community, who serve as mentors and sponsors throughout their high school and college experiences. Participants are advised and encouraged to pursue post-secondary education as a viable option after graduation from high school. Approximately, 100% of the youth that have completed our leadership program have gone on to pursue a post- secondary education.

Scholarships and Awards

The Foundation seeks to raised funds to provide educational scholarships and achievement awards to young people transitioning into post-secondary education. In past years, the Foundation has help to award over $200,000 in scholarships to hundreds of students in the Prince George’s County community. 

Community Outreach

The Foundation partners with a variety of other nonprofit organizations and government agencies to help support community outreach initiatives such as Toys for Tots, Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Seniors, and Holiday Food Baskets for Needy Families and Children in the Prince George’s County community. The Foundation annually assist hundreds of families and children facing a variety of socio-economic challenges. The organization is committed to making a difference in the lives of those who need us the most.
