At J5, we believe that when you uplift a Black or Brown girl and her mother, you ignite generational transformation.

Rooted in Sarasota’s historic black community of Newtown, J5 is the only nonprofit in the region using a Two-Generation Approach, serving Black and Brown girls and their mothers through mentorship, academic support, emotional wellness, and financial education.

Rooted and Rising with an emphasis that we are now opening this organization up to the entire family. 

Past Programs

Girls Achievement Program (G.A.P.): School-based mentoring, tutoring, STEM activities, and social-emotional learning.

Mommy & Me: Bonding and wellness workshops to strengthen the mother-daughter relationship and promote emotional well-being.

Money Matters: Hands-on workshops that teach how to budget, save, repair credit and grow their financial power.

Pathway to Homeownership: Step-by-step financial coaching and credit-building to help families move toward attainable, permanent housing, building Black wealth in the historically black community of Newtown in Sarasota, Fl.

Your donation directly supports mentorship hours, financial literacy kits, school supplies, and one-on-one credit repair coaching for families working toward economic empowerment.

$48 Provides school supplies for one child to start the school year with confidence.

$58 Supports one month of Parent & Child workshops, providing meaningful activities and materials that strengthen family connection, communication, and emotional well-being.

$88 Sponsors one financial coaching session for a parent, including credit-building tools.

$128 Supports a family’s participation in our Back-to-School Kickoff event with uniforms, resources, and educational materials.

$828 Signature Level Powers a full year of two-generation support: mentorship, literacy coaching, and housing education for one child and parent.
