The Healing Project of Louisiana is a nonprofit committed to uplifting and empowering historically underserved communities, especially Black youth and women in Northeast Louisiana through arts, education, cultural & community healing, leadership development, and mental health support. Founded by award-winning educator, author, and advocate Jamie Mayes, our work is rooted in the belief that healing is both a personal journey and a collective responsibility.

In Monroe, where over half of children live below the poverty line and opportunities for creative and emotional growth are limited, we create safe, affirming spaces for transformation. Our programs blend creative arts, storytelling, and trauma-informed practices to help participants heal from past wounds, discover their voices, and step into leadership. From youth leadership initiatives and school supply drives to racial healing workshops and women’s entrepreneurship events, we design experiences that restore hope, build skills, and strengthen community bonds.

Every story shared, every skill gained, and every connection made moves us closer to our vision: a Louisiana where every person is seen, heard, healed, and empowered to lead. By supporting The Healing Project, you are investing in resilience, amplifying voices too often silenced, and helping to create a future where healing leads to lasting change.
