$5,000 Goal

Since 2015, The DRANREF Foundation (TDF), a non-profit charitable and educational organization, has exposed over 2,000 students and 170 teachers to the ancient practices of problem solving. Our mission is to close the achievement gap and our vision is that all black and brown students perform on grade level by third grade by introducing proven global tools to American local schools. The Abacus Project is TDF's signature program and its curriculum improves math skills, develops concentration, and enhances critical thinking skills to help students become better problem solvers, build confidence and boost achievement.

We invite students to experience math differently. They build their own Soroban (Japanese Abacus) using colorful beads and craft sticks, uncover the ancient number system and watch their calculations come to life through strategic bead movement.

We offer introductory sessions and provide practice materials to extend the learning experience to home. More robust programs are available to capture impact and metrics. Professional Development Workshop for Educators are also offered to area schools and community centers to help scale the project and our reach.

There are two things we know for sure: Achievement Matters and Black Kids Count. We remain committed to closing the achievement gap by working with community partners and schools to champion programs that are proven and work, and by bringing scalable solutions to the table at our Annual Black Kids Count Education Forum.
