Desert Soul Media

Desert Soul Media, Inc. is an educational non-profit bridging the digital divide between access to and training on digital media equipment and software at the Desert Soul Creative Studios  is our public media center where education community voices and local journalism thrive. Inside the creative studios programmers get training and hands-on experience in the 13th-largest radio market in the nation, in need of diverse voices and accessible pathways into broadcasting. Our public media center is home to Radio Phoenix KRDP 90.7FM, the only full power Black led and Black serving radio station in Arizona. Desert Soul Creative Studios is a platform for stories that might otherwise go unheard. 

KRDP Jazz (KRDP 90.7 FM) is a Jazz, Blues & Soul music community radio station serving the eastern suburbs of the Phoenix, Arizona metro area. In addition to our primary Jazz/Blues/Soul format, our programming focuses on a mix of news, public affairs, and specialty programming primarily targeting Arizona’s Black and African-American community.

Launched in 2022, the KRDP Jazz 90.7 FM signal covers Apache Junction, Ahwatukee, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, portions of southeast Phoenix, Queen Creek, San Tan Village, south Scottsdale, and Tempe. We are the first FM radio station in the Phoenix metro and the state of Arizona that is wholly-owned or controlled by African-Americans since the sale of Phoenix’s KMJK (106.9 FM) in January 2001.

KRDP Jazz 90.7 FM is operated along with our sister station KRDP Indie by Desert Soul Media, Inc., a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, which provides trauma-informed multimedia literacy and technical training programs. Collectively, KRDP Jazz 90.7 FM and KRDP Indie are known as KRDP Community Radio. Soul Star Live, is a public affairs series that examines news, current events, arts, culture, finance, health and wellness from perspectives of the local Black and African American community. Broadcast live Mon-Fri at 12 noon on KRDP Community Radio and on YouTube, it is Arizona’s only daily news and public affairs series addressing topics of concern to the state’s growing Black and African American; as well as African and Afro Caribbean immigrant communities.

Desert Soul Creative Studios (DSCS), currently in its initial development stage, is a public access media center located in Phoenix, Arizona. DSCS provides the public with media literacy training in digital audio production, radio broadcasting, social media marketing and journalism, as well as access to audio production studios and a multimedia lab for creating content.
