Descendants of Heritage and Freedom

Too many African American patriots and soldiers who helped shape our nation’s history remain unnamed, undocumented, or absent from the stories we learn. Descendants of Heritage and Freedom (DHF) exists to ensure their courage, service, and sacrifice are remembered.

DHF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit lineage and historical preservation organization honoring African Americans who served during the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Through genealogical research, historical preservation, education, and community engagement, we uncover overlooked stories, help descendants connect with their ancestors, and share this important history with future generations.

Your gift helps us document Black military service, preserve family and archival records, develop educational programs, raise awareness of historic sites and monuments, and make these stories accessible to the public. Every record discovered and every story preserved adds another voice to a more complete understanding of American history.
