CineOdyssey showcases diverse, contemporary films from around the world, featuring cutting edge works by filmmakers of color from the African, Caribbean, Latino, Asian, and Indigenous diasporas, as well as the U.S.

There are very few animation festivals in the U.S., and specifically created for filmmakers of color. In April 2025, CineOdyssey became the first in North Carolina. The seeds of reimagining CineOdyssey were planted during the global pandemic, to give a platform for diverse storytelling, and to amplify voices that are often underrepresented in the industry. Moreover, animation captivates audiences of all ages, transcending language and cultural barriers, thus broadening the festival's reach and impact. One of the key benefits of the festival in it's first year were the high level networking opportunities with industry professionals. This included film screenings, panels, workshops, and informal gatherings designed to foster connections that will lead to future collaborations and career advancements.

The CineOdyssey Animation Festival is a pioneering event dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the creative talents of filmmakers of color in the realm of animation. This vibrant festival provides a unique platform for underrepresented voices in the animation industry to share their stories, perspectives, and artistic visions with a diverse and enthusiastic audience. By focusing exclusively on filmmakers of color, CineOdyssey aims to promote inclusivity and diversity, fostering a more equitable landscape within the animation community.
