Charlotte African Drum and Dance Collective

CADDC creates an inclusive community for everyone who shares a love and passion for African drumming, dance, and culture. Through classes, workshops, performances, and community programs, we make West African cultural arts accessible to youth, adults, and seniors throughout the Charlotte, NC community. 

WHAT WE DO:

• Provide affordable West African Dance classes for children and adults, featuring live drumming every Sunday. 
• Offer drum and dance workshops led by professional instructors with more than 30 years of collective experience in the arts.
• Expand access to West African dance and drumming for communities of color and individuals with ancestral roots in the African diaspora.
• Perform in the community and showcase our talents through live televised performances on WBTV Charlotte, Juneteenth festivals, and Kwanzaa Charlotte. 

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Members of our children's dance program are preparing for a 10-day cultural journey to Ghana, West Africa, in late 2027. This experience will allow our youth to learn, serve, perform, and deepen their connection to the traditions of West African drum, dance, music, and culture. Your support will help offset the costs of travel, lodging, cultural education, meals, program supplies, and community outreach.

During their journey, the youth will: 

• Learn through daily drum, dance, and cultural song classes. 
• Serve through community outreach at a village preparatory school and maternity ward.
• Grow through evidence-based Social Prescribing practices that connect youth to activities, relationships, and resources that support physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
