About Us

5 Strong is closing the racial wealth gap 1 cohort at a time!

5 Strong partners with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to provide promising student leaders with full-tuition scholarships and ongoing mentorship and support from matriculation to graduation.

We start with detailed information sessions to figure out if 5 Strong is the right fit for you. For those who apply and are accepted, we build teams of 5 scholars and provide bimonthly College Ready Prep Sessions. We work with participating HBCUs to arrange scholarships and admission as a 5-scholar cohort. We provide monthly cohort meetings and ongoing support from a team of experienced educators that has over 30 years of combined experience helping minority students graduate from high school and get into college. And, four years after starting college, we celebrate as each cohort of 5 scholars graduates together!

The 5 Strong College Prep Sessions (CPS) was specifically developed to aid in the growth of our scholars by having weekly meetings that will include: team building exercises, leadership skills workshops, understanding financial aid workshops, networking – on and off campus, academic success/study skills workshops, time management workshops, and goal setting workshops.

The 5 Strong Scholar Tracker was developed to track students during their 4 years on campus, assist with finding scholars summer jobs and internships, review and discuss report cards and study skills, and assist scholars with post undergraduate plans.

The 5 Strong Scholarship Foundation's mission is to help increase the graduation and retention rate at Colleges and Universities. Partnering with HBCU’s will allow us to award 5 of their full tuition scholarships our 5 Strong Scholars. Together we can begin developing and graduating 5 Strong Scholars that will be leaders and productive citizens in their communities.

Our Mission

The mission of the 5 Strong Scholarship Foundation is to increase the retention and graduation rates at partnering Historically Black Colleges and Universities by assisting in the enrollment and success of academically promising student leaders until graduation. These emerging leaders and scholars, who will enter in a cohort of 5 students and be known as 5 Strong Scholars, will be supported over the course of their college career to ensure persistence and graduation in four years. Through academic, personal/social, and career development, these students will positively impact their college campuses and be better prepared to compete in our global society.

Our Vision

The 5 Strong Scholarship Foundation’s vision is to help increase retention and graduation rates of Historically Black Colleges and Universities by placing groups of 5 Strong Scholars on these campuses nationwide each year. With the support offered by the 5 Strong Foundation, these groups of 5 Strong Scholars will become equipped with the academic, professional, and social tools that position them to be leaders on their campuses, leaders in their communities and leaders in the international workforce.
