Led by NGAAP, the effort aims to elevate and strengthen the network of local Black-led, Black benefitting nonprofits and to advance racial funding equity.
Defining our focus
- Black-led: 50 percent or more of staff leadership and board identify as Black or African American
- Black benefitting: 50 percent or more of population served identified as Black or African American
CLT GIVES BLACK takes place every August 28 because of the date's historical significance and culminates local celebrations of Black Philanthropy Month during August. It's also part of The Bold Project™ which is an NGAAP Initiative with Black Organizations Leading Differently.

Invest in a better future for all of us
Nonprofit organizations with Black founders and leadership are at the forefront of providing crucial support and resources across Charlotte-Mecklenburg. These nonprofits benefit not only Black children, women, men and families—one-third of the county—but also a wide spectrum of communities of color and marginalized people.
They are often well-recognized beacons of hope and opportunity, delivering critical services, offering training, and giving voice to those frequently unseen and unheard. Even so, Black-founded and led nonprofits are chronically under-funded. Funding equity is imperative to strengthen Charlotte’s Black-led and Black-benefitting and Black-founded nonprofits, which form the backbone of our communities.
Just imagine the possibilities if, together, we even the playing field.
