What is The AIP BIPOC Network and Why #Give8/28?

The AIP BIPOC Network (ABN) is a national nonprofit led by and for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) navigating autoimmune disease and chronic illness. Our mission is to improve the quality of life in our communities through Awareness, Advocacy, Action, Assessment, and Access, because no one should have to navigate chronic illness alone, especially not in under-resourced communities where care is often delayed, dismissed, or culturally disconnected.

On August 28th, ABN is proud to join #Give828, a national day of giving dedicated to uplifting Black-led, Black-serving organizations during Black Philanthropy Month.

Unlike typical fundraising campaigns, Give 8/28 is rooted in history, legacy, and resilience. It commemorates key moments in Black history:

  • August 28, 1955: The murder of Emmett Till became a turning point in the civil rights movement.

  • August 28, 1963: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech.

  • August 28, 2005: Hurricane Katrina made landfall, devastating Black communities.

  • August 28, 2008: Barack Obama accepted the Democratic nomination for President.

Each of these moments represents struggle, change, and progress. Today, we channel that same energy into the fight for health justice.

Why Give 8/28 Matters

Give 8/28 is more than a giving day. It’s a movement. Its is a national platform created to intentionally center Black-led nonprofits like ours.

At The AIP BIPOC Network, we believe no one navigating autoimmune disease or chronic illness should feel invisible, unheard, or alone. But too often in Black and Brown communities, they do, facing systemic delays, limited support, and barriers to culturally grounded care.

Your support helps us rewrite that story.

By donating or creating a peer-to-peer fundraiser, you’re directly supporting:

✔️ Education that empowers self-advocacy
✔️ Programs that close health equity gaps
✔️ Representation that reflects our communities
✔️ Connection that reduces isolation
✔️ Hope for those often overlooked

Why Now?

Because chronic illness doesn’t wait. Because Black-led organizations still receive less than 2% of philanthropic dollars. Because Black voices in wellness and healing deserve to be heard, funded, and followed.

This Give 8/28, your gift says:
We see you. We hear you. And we’re building for you.

You’re not just donating to a nonprofit. You’re investing in community-powered healing. You’re affirming that representation in wellness matters. You’re helping build a future where autoimmune care is equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive.

How We Show Up

💛 ROCK the Block – Our flagship community health expo bringing screenings, services, and autoimmune education directly into overlooked neighborhoods.

💛 AIP BIPOC Roundtbles – Monthly community-led conversations that validate lived experience and equip participants with culturally grounded tools for healing.
💛 Community Health Outreach – In-person events providing real-time support, information, and education to BIPOC individuals and families.

💛 Private Support Spaces – A safe digital space for connection, peer support, mentorship, and education.

💛 Policy & Research Advocacy – We show up in rooms where care is shaped—pushing for representation in research, trials, and public health strategy.

💛 Holistic Health Education – We teach AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) through a culturally relevant, trauma-informed lens, via workshops, toolkits, presentations and more.
