Brooklyn Movement Center organizes Black Central Brooklynites in Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights, and Brownsville, and our allies, to build collective power and address the issues that make life most challenging for Black and low-income residents of Central Brooklyn.

Over its 15-year history, BMC has conducted research to document the needs and concerns of Black Central Brooklynites, led campaigns to make streets safer, reduce street harassment and respond to and prevent police violence, launched an award-winning citizen journalism program and podcast, incubated food justice programs and more.

We are raising funds for Brooklyn Movement Center to amplify its work connecting with Black Central Brooklynites and allied community members through campaigns, programs and gatherings throughout the year and beyond.

Through 2027, BMC will continue to connect and engage with as many Central Brooklynites as possible to collect and document stories and experiences, not only to identify common barriers but also to build creative, community-rooted solutions. BMC will also engage the new city administration in conversations about how to address Black displacement by investing in Black Brooklyn.

A donation to BMC is an investment in Black communities in Brooklyn, Black Futures, and an affirmation that together, we can build the solutions we need to thrive. BMC is currently the only Black-led and Black-focused grassroots community organization in Central Brooklyn.

In 2025, BMC became a victim of displacement as we were forced to move from the Black-owned historical mansion that was our home for 15 years.  Sadly, the second-generation Black owners were forced to try to sell the property to pay off a tax lien. A gift to BMC will help us rent gathering spaces in Central Brooklyn so our community can keep strategizing and organizing together.
