MH Boxes: Supporting Black Girls' Mental Health

Morganne is an executive board member of MH Boxes, a non-profit that was started by Mila Henry and her mom, Carissa. After meeting Carissa and hearing about Mila's own  experience with accessing mental health resources as a pre-teen, Morganne was happy to join this non-profit as a board member to offer her support and professional experience in children's psychosocial care and school-based mental health.

The mission of MH Boxes is to reduce the stigma of mental health struggles by providing boxes of tools that are culturally relevant and tailored for Black adolescent girls, and that also include age-appropriate resources for mental health support to spur on open and honest conversations. It costs only $35 to assemble and ship one box, and to date, MH Boxes has delivered over 3,000 boxes to public schools, girl scout troops, extra-curricular groups, therapy practices, and directly to the homes of girls. Our young people need to be shown that acknowledging our mental health status isn't shameful, and that there are resources designed especially for you! This year our theme is : Black girls don't need to be 'fixed.' They need to be heard, believed, and supported.

Each board member is fundraising on behalf of our organization with the goal of expanding our services to include growing the Youth Advisory Board, speaking engagements, and providing toolkits along with the resource boxes.
