1 Million Madly Motivated Moms (1M4) is a Black woman-led grassroots movement working to ensure families know where to turn during a mental health, behavioral health, or substance use crisis.

Too often, families facing a crisis are left believing that calling the police is their only option. Police involvement can escalate a health emergency, expose a person in crisis to unnecessary harm, and leave families carrying additional trauma.

1M4 helps families find another path.

Through storytelling, technology, community education, and grassroots mobilization, we connect Black mothers, caregivers, and families with culturally responsive support and community-based alternatives to police involvement.

Our work includes:

• Maintaining The Right Response Directory, a free national resource mapping more than 250 alternative crisis response programs across 42 states

• Providing community education, prevention trainings, Sista Check-Ins, and conversations about mental wellness and safer crisis response

• Connecting families with resources during some of their most vulnerable moments

• Sharing lived experiences that reduce stigma and change how communities understand mental illness, public safety, and care

• Advocating for systems where people experiencing a health crisis receive treatment and support rather than criminalization

Our vision is that by 2038, every household in America will know where to turn during a mental health or substance use emergency. Families will have access to care-centered options, and fewer people will experience the added trauma of police, court, and jail involvement during a health crisis.
